Canton basketball star Jamarion Davis-Fleming committed to Mississippi State in front of a crowd at the school Monday afternoon.

Davis-Fleming, a 6’9 center about to play in his senior season for Canton, is rated as the 90th best player in the 247Sports composite rankings and is rated as the state’s top player. Last season, he averaged 16 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks, en route to a 5A Mr. Basketball award and a 5A state title for Canton.

Davis-Fleming will bring that rare combination of size, length, and athleticism that he has shown at Canton in high school so far, to a Mississippi State basketball program that has been on the rise in the past couple of years under Head Coach Chris Jans.

“There is a lot to like offensively, but where he really shines is on the defensive end as one of the country’s top rim protectors,” 247Sports analyst Travis Branham said following their livestream of Davis-Fleming’s commitment. “He has all the tools to continue to grow, as he fills out that frame.”

His final schools also consisted of Ole Miss, LSU, and James Madison, before Davis-Fleming eventually decided to commit to play for the Bulldogs.

“Chris Jans and the other coaches called me every day and they just gave me the perfect plan and the blueprint,” Davis-Fleming said. “I want to be great and Mississippi State is the best school for that.”

With that commitment, that now makes four consecutive years that Mississippi State has received the commitment of the state’s top-ranked basketball recruit. The previous three were Eric Paymon (Raymond, 2024), Josh Hubbard (MRA, 2023), and Kimani Hamilton (Clinton, 2022). With the commitment of Davis-Fleming, the Bulldogs now have the 19th ranked recruiting class in the nation for the class of 2025.

“It means alot (to play for Mississippi State), it’s right up the road from here and it means a lot to play for the state that raised me,” Davis-Fleming said. “Mississippi has always been my backbone, I love Mississippi.”

Canton and Jamarion Davis-Fleming will get their 5A state title defense underway with their first official game at Yazoo County on November 5th. Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
