An eight-year-old girl has died after being hit by a Madison County School District bus in Madison on Wednesday, according to Madison Police.

MADISON — An eight-year-old girl has died after being hit by a Madison County School District bus here Wednesday, according to Madison Police.
The 8-year-old Madison girl has "succumbed to her injuries. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin," MPD said in a statement on Wednesday night.
According to Madison Police Lieutenant Micah Taylor, on Oct. 2, at about 4:20 p.m., the Madison Police Department responded to a Madison County School District bus accident.
Taylor said the bus hit an eight-year-old girl at the intersection of Cobblestone Drive and Rockwood Drive.
First responders arrived on the scene and immediately began providing medical assistance. Officials said the child was transported to UMMC by ambulance.
“We ask the public to please stay away from the area, as Madison Police officers are continuing their investigation and reconstructing the scene,“ Taylor said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and Madison County School District.”
All school children on the bus were reunited with their parents.
