Gluckstadt police chief warns residents to watch out for burglars

GLUCKSTADT — Residents here have been warned to be on the lookout for burglars.

Police Chief Wendell Watts said in an April 20 announcement on social media that this is the time of year burglaries begin to occur, and he urged residents to be aware of their surroundings, pay attention to what they leave in vehicles, and to not leave any weapons inside.

“Do not leave anything of value inside your vehicle if you can help it,” Watts said. “Try not to make your property a crime of opportunity. Pay attention to your surroundings when driving home. Get to know your surroundings when driving home. Get to know your neighborhood, and the cars and people that are in your neighborhood.”

Watts said for residents to make a mental note when they see something that doesn’t belong or someone they’ve never seen in or around the neighborhood, and to contact local law enforcement.

“Help be our eyes and ears when we are patrolling other areas,” he said. “Let’s make all our areas safe from criminals and stay aware. If you would like us to survey your home or business to help with crime prevention, we will be more than happy to come out and help to educate you and others. We want everyone safe.”

For more information or to report a possible crime, call the Gluckstadt Police Department at (769) 567-2780. Residents can also call the Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at (601) 919-2223.
