Jason McRae Wimberly, born on March 7, 1973, passed away on August 23, 2024, at age 51 in a helicopter crash.

A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Jason was known for his warm spirit and an infectious smile that could light up any room. He never met a stranger, and his circle of friends was as vast as the skies he loved to soar.

Jason’s life was marked by a deep sense of duty and adventure. After graduating from Mississippi State University, he served our country with distinction during his Army career, including a tour in Iraq as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot.

His love for piloting didn’t end with his military service; it carried over into his civilian life, where he most recently worked as a helicopter crop duster in Texas, a job that allowed him to continue doing what he loved most.

Jason is survived by his parents, Andy and Christy Wimberly; his brother, Michael Wimberly, and sister-in-law Leigh; his sister, Katie McAlister, and brother-in-law Greg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dianne “Dee Dee” Wimberly, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral arrangements will be at First Baptist Church Ridgeland, August 31 at 11:00, visitation at 9:30. There will be a private family burial at Parkway Cemetery immediately following.

Jason will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to First Baptist Church Jackson, First Baptist Church Ridgeland or the Wounded Warrior Foundation
