Madison schools receive ‘A’ again

Madison County schools have achieved an “A” rating for the 11th consecutive year. 

“Our outstanding students, teachers, staff, and administrators have once again knocked it out of the park,” said Madison County Schools Superintendent Ted Poore.

“We are very proud of these excellent results, especially the news that every school in our district has earned an A or a B school-level grade for the second year in a row,”

The Mississippi Department of Education released the grade-level scores of districts and schools across the state at their Board meeting on Tuesday. 

MCS is the largest district in the top 10 high-scoring districts and the only one with multiple high schools. 

“Earning a strong “A,” especially as a large district, reinforces that our students in all four attendance zones are mastering the content and knowledge needed for academic success,” Poore said.

“These results truly are a testament to the dedication of our teachers in preparing students and our administrators in making sure teachers and students at every campus in our district have the support they need to succeed.”

The district serves more than 13,000 students in grades pre-K through 12 on 23 campuses. 

Gene Graham, the district’s director of communications, said Madison Middle School achieved the highest score in the state among all middle schools.

Graham said other “highlights” include first-time A-ratings for Shirley D. Simmons Middle School, East Flora Elementary School, Madison Avenue Lower Elementary, and Madison Station Elementary, which rank among the top 10 scoring elementary schools. 

“All 11 MCS elementary campuses earned an A rating,” Graham said. “Solidifying the district’s overall record high score.”
