New street signs featuring the city’s seal are popping up in Gluckstadt neighborhoods and subdivisions this summer.

Mayor Walter Morrison said the signs help the city of Gluckstadt “develop and maintain an identity” and gives the residents a “small degree of pride in their city.”

Public Works Director Mike McCollum said the city purchased about $16,000 worth of signs to the tune of $106 apiece.

This is Phase I of a signage project that will change out the street signs in neighborhoods and subdivisions. McCollum said city crews started about two weeks ago and are now about 40 percent complete.

He said they hoped to have all the signs up within the next 60 days.

“They are really high-quality good-looking signs,” McCollum said. “We have already gotten some calls about them and it has been a positive response.”

Phase II will include signs on major roadways like the Calhoun Station Parkway and parts of Gluckstadt Road, according to McCollum. He said Phase II would likely be a project for the next fiscal year.
