Park concept plan unveiled

According to preliminary designs presented to city officials earlier this month, a proposed Gluckstadt Park could feature walking trails, a playground, a pavilion, a stage, a splash pad, and more.

Mayor Walter Morrison said the preliminary designs are based on a feedback from members of the public

. Morrison said city employees, including Public Works Director Chris Buckner, did the initial design.

“I think they did a fantastic job,” Morrison said.

The proposed park will be located on land donated to the city that sits off of Calhoun Station Parkway just south of Callaway’s Yard and Garden Center. 

The donation came from the families of Lee Hutchinson and John Harreld, who have deep roots in the area and was organized in part by commercial realtor Christi Greenlee.

Morrison called the contribution “generous and gracious.”

Morrison said they are still working on cost estimates and figuring out what a final design would look like based on this community feedback report that was presented to him and the city board.

He said they hoped to make a more concrete announcement after the plans and estimates are finalized.

“It is difficult to tell at this time we have no set time frame,” Morrison said. “We hope to have an update within the next couple of months.”
